ABOUT
THE MAYOR
Mayor Robert S. (Bob) Morris is serving in his second term
as Mayor of the Town of Somerville, Tennessee. He took office
on June 1, 2000, and comes up for possible re-election in
May of 2008.
Mayor Morris is a product of Fayette
County schools, where he went through the 10th grade in the
public school system, and completed his high school education
at Fayette Academy, graduating in 1972. He attended the University
of Tennessee at Knoxville for a while and then chose to come
home to Somerville to get married, raise a family, and go
to work. He has been here ever since.
Bob worked from 1973-1986 for Grady
Morris and Son, Inc., a locally owned lumber and building
supply business, that also had a large construction division.
In 1986, he bought out the building supply business and owned
and operated it until 1990. He sold the business to his younger
brother. Since that time, Bob has worked as a General Manager
for Chevrolet, sold real estate, and currently has his own
insurance business working with AFLAC. He has been a Rotarian,
a Jaycee, a member of the local Chamber of Commerce, and served
on several local Boards. For fifteen years, now, Bob has served
as the "Voice of the Vikings" for Fayette Academy
football. He serves on the Town of Somerville Municipal Planning
Commission, and the Town's Task Force for the arts. He helps
orchestrate "Music in the Park" and "Home for
the Holidays", and is the official popcorn cooker for
the Fair Theatre, a Charter Member of the Somerville Old Car
Club, and is active in all community functions.
"Mayor Bob", as he is known
around Town, is 52 years old and a life-long resident of Somerville.
Bob and his wife, Jane, who works as Office Administrator
for Dowdy's Dozier, have three children and four grandchildren.
They are very active in the lives of their family. Bob and
Jane are members of Bellevue Baptist Church in Cordova, TN.
